Goodwill Computer Works relies on a steady flow of computers, computer peripheral and electronic donations from various sources. We welcome donations from individuals, corporations, small businesses, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and government agencies. Also, in partnership with Dell Reconnect, Goodwill offers consumers a FREE, convenient and responsible way to recycle used computers, monitors, printers, scanners, hard drives, keyboards, mice, speakers, cords, cables, software and electronics. The items received through our Dell Reconnect recycling program are then refurbished and resold by Goodwill Computer Works or recycled.
Your Personal/Confidential Information AND/OR Broken hard drives: It is your responsibility to remove or "wipe" your hard drives prior to donation to Goodwill. We have a very secure facility where these items are disassembled and processed for recycling, and any newer computers have the hard drives wiped exceeding Department of Defense standards, but ultimately we cannot take responsibility for your confidential information. We have never had an incident of identity theft. If you go online, or to your local library, there are lots of free videos, detailed instructions, and resources that will allow you to either wipe your hard drive or remove it and destroy the data. You do not have to be a "techie" to figure it out. Two examples of software available for this purpose are available at www.dban.com or www.killdisk.com. Goodwill Industries of RI cannot and does not endorse any particular type of software, including the two sample sites noted above.
